The Washington State Legislature passed the Keeping Families Together Act (HB 1227) in 2021, with an effective date of July 1, 2023. This historic legislation makes significant changes to the front-end of the dependency court process and represents a fundamental shift in how courts consider child safety in decision-making. In May, Family & Youth Justice Programs (FYJP) held the 2023 Dependency Judicial Training Academy which was entirely focused on preparing courts for these monumental changes.
