Shelter Care

THINK TANK

WHO WE ARE

The Shelter Care Think Tank is a group of cross-system partners committed to collaborating with local dependency courts to improve their shelter care hearings. The Think Tank can help court communities identify barriers and develop solutions.

Between us, we have many years of experience working in courts to improve outcomes for families and professionals. We also have access to data, research and training resources to support system change.

WHAT WE DO

Depending on the nature of the accepted referral, the Think Tank will work with the local court community to create a tailored approach to identify barriers and develop solutions. The Think Tank is best equipped to assist dependency court systems who want to improve their shelter care process and would like assistance in doing so.

Examples of how we can assist include:

  • Reaching out to your court partners to offer trainings, resources, and support when barriers exists in their process
  • Providing practice examples from other courts, both locally and nationally
  • Connecting your team with other courts who solved a similar problem
  •  Problem clarification and team commitment

Examples of shelter care improvements that the Think Tank can support local courts to develop:

  • Process for assigning parties and attorneys to new cases prior to the shelter care hearing
  • Discovery agreements and processes
  • Efficient court calendaring and scheduling
  • Early Notification Process for a dependency filing
  • Identifying areas for system improvements
  • Increasing engagement of parents, families, and kin at the hearing

HOW IT WORKS

1. A member(s) of the local court community submits a referral using the form below to the Think Tank.

2. Once a referral is received, a member of the Think Tank will follow up to learn more about the request and determine if the issue would be appropriate for the Think Tank.

3. If the referral is accepted, the Think Tank will schedule a meeting to determine how best to move forward towards a solution.
